Have I selected the right roofing contractor? |

Hiring the right roofing company to perform your installation or repair job does not have to be an overwhelming task. You should just follow a few important steps I listed below and you will be set to go! |

Search For A Contractor You Can Trust! |

Please do not hesitate to research a company's reputation. Many contractors in business 3 years ago are no longer in business today, and many in business today were not in business 3 years ago. Check these resources: ● Referrals from personal or business associates ● Better Business Bureau ● Chamber of Commerce ● Trade Associations ● Local Licensing Authorities (Building Inspection Dept.)
How long has the company been in business? Are calls returned promptly? Have they performed many of the same projects that you are looking for them to do? Does the company have a physical address, not just a Post Office Box? How long have they been at this location? |

Consider Product Knowledge and Professionalism |

If a contractor is not experienced, does not take pride in his work, or cannot answer your questions throughly from the start, chances are you will not be satisfied with the end results. Here are some questions to ask yourself during your interview process: ● What is your initial impression of the company representative you are talking with?] ● What kind of company image does he/she portray? Are they professional in appearance and behavior? ● Is this person enthusiastic, straight forward and competent? ● Is this contractor providing you with sound information about materials being used? ● What is the quality of these materials? ● What are the company’s on-site procedures? ● Are all your questions being answered in a timely manner? ● What kind of follow-up have you received during your selection process?
Also, keep this in mind: Selecting the best products is as important to your job as selecting the right contractor. |

Check Insurance Coverage, Safety Policies and Licensing |

An uninsured or partially insured contractor can cost you thousands of dollars, in the case of an accident or property damage. The best contractor is one that is fully insured and practices good safety procedures. You can request certificates of insurance and call to verify the following: ● Worker’s Compensation Coverage ● General Liability Insurance ● Licensing and Building Permits

Be aware of Extremely Low Bids |

There are a lot of things a contractor can eliminate or skimp on to reduce the price, but it may not be in your best interest. A low estimate might indicate the following: ● Contractors with minimal or no insurance can charge less because they do not have the high insurance premiums ● Poor, unsupervised workmanship ● Low grade materials ● Failure to replace necessary accessories (flashings etc.)
You may need additional ventilation; you may have rotten wood; you may need to remove existing roof; or you may need a better grade material on a low sloped area. Look for the contractor who is not afraid to give you all the information and let you decide. |
